Les Fromentaux

Les Fromentaux started as a military zone created in 1917 to stock ammunition. The camp fell into disuse in 2004 and about 50 buildings were deserted. A surface area spanning over 80 hectares was the perfect location to establish our testing activity. Les Fromentaux underwent extensive renovations and was fitted out with all the latest technologies as well as a modern laboratory and a number of crash-test areas.

City section

City area

  • About 30 hectares, 12km of urban streets
  • 2 boulevards – about 500 meters long, with 6 lanes, T1 French axial marking. Bus and cycle lanes created on request.
  • 4 sections with different layouts: intersections / crossroads / winding streets / parking slots / double bends…
  • Ring road: 1755 meters around the City Area, 3 lanes, with 4 access lanes.
  • 40 buildings: a veritable city with real buildings to test connectivity (LOS/NLOS scenarios)
  • Containers: showing buildings with another component
  • Adjustable acilities: 60 fiber optic cabinets – roving sidewalk and façades - EV charging station - changing-message sign
  • Road equipment: movable signs – traffic lights with GLOSA services - bumpers – roundabouts – bus stops
  • Road marking: traffic lanes – crosswalks – luminescent lanes
  • Range of driving environments: surfaces (asphalt, paved streets, damaged road) – vegetation – sloping
  • Modular zone covering 7000 m2 – parking or event area

3 crash test areas, each with:

  • Rockfall embankment for safety and privacy

    Area length: 150m
    Surface: compacted gravel and asphalt
  • Crash Test Area 2: HVM / EN1317 crash tests
    Launch pad: 732m - Angle: frontal
    Surface: as required by customers.
  • Crash Test Area 3: EN1317 / AASHTO MASH crash tests
    Area length: 200m
    Surface: compacted gravel, asphalt & concrete (bridge)
